Research Interests
Citizenship Studies – citizens’ engagement with, and enactment and disruption of citizenship regimes and habitus, classical and contemporary interpretations of liberal and republican theories of citizenship, and European citizenship
Nation and Nationalisms; Racial and Ethnic Politics; Minority Politics – Currently, I am in the process of co-authoring an article with Dr. Agnes Czajka of the American University in Cairo on the role played by the Lausanne Treaty of 1923 in the nationalisation of minority rights in Europe. This paper constitutes a part of a wider research theme provisionally titled “European Minority Politics” which comprises of an analysis of the emergence of the minority issue in continental Europe; the historical trajectory along which it has developed; the power relations embedded in its development; its historical and contemporary problematisations; its presence in contemporary European discourses on citizenship; and the manners in which various minority groups interpret their own political agencies vis-à-vis the polities they belong to as citizens.
European Studies – Europeanisation within and on the borders of the EU; construction and enactment of European identity
Contemporary Political Theory; Continental Social and Political Thought – Currently, I am in the process of conducting preliminary research on the manner in which different strands of European political thought has engaged with the question of responsibility.)
Historical Methods in Social Sciences; Discourse Analysis
