CSWE & IARCEES Conference a Success

Published: Sun 10th May

The Conference, held in the comfortable surroudings of the John Hume Boardroom, attracted a large number of applicants when the Call for Papers was announced. Having agreed that an interdisciplinary conference on the theme '1989-twenty years on' was a worthwhile and needed academic endeavour, the Centre organised the Annual Conference by including papers from across the academic spectrum.

There were over 50 participants at the conference, a large number given the fact that the Centre is still in its infancy and on the periphery of European academic scholarship. Scholarly debate and discourse was a key aim of the Centre in organising the conference and this was achieved in all aspects of the conference. A reception was organised in Carton House Hotel where Dr Christoph Armbruster delivered his keynote speech among distinguished guests and conference participants. The Conference Dinner, held in the Gold Saloon of Carton House Hotel, was an elegant affair and one of the highlights of the conference.  (Full details to follow.)

Building on the encouraging success of the conference and the ideas expressed in the 'General Discussion'  the Centre will continue its' growth and development in the knowledge that a leading international research centre in the study of 'Wider Europe' can indeed become a reality in Ireland.

A full report of the Conference will be published shortly. CSWE takes this opportunity to thank everyone involved for their participation and dedication to 'Wider Europe'
